BEHOLD, THE BRIDEGROOM COMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

The Monastic Choir of the Valaam Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour
Precentor Monk German (Ryabtsev)

1 CD (colour booklet)
1999 The Igor Matvienko Production Centre

You will hear selected Lenten hymns, such as «Open to me, O Giver of Life, the gates of repentance», «Let my prayer be set forth in Thy sight», of the All-Night Vigil («Bless the Lord, O my soul», «Blessed is the man», «O Gladsome Light») and also the Paschal hymns «The angel cried» and «Christ is Risen!».

The hymns are sung in the Greek and Valaam chants and are a witness of preserving the old traditions of church singing. These chants are close to one another, though they express the prayerful mood of a man in different ways.

Colour booklet-poster with a view of the Skete of All Saints in Valaam.
